13 Jun Field of Dreams – Wedding Inspirations Photographer
Recently one of our shoots was selected to be published in Wedding Inspirations in the article Field of Dreams. We are proud to share some of Good Night Key Lights Published work.
What was the inspiration for this look?
We started to notice how brides were looking for unconventional places to celebrate their special days. Most wanted a “into the woods feeling” but as we live in South Africa those type of landscape can sometimes be quite scares. So we thought what a great way it would be to celebrate the natural beauty of our country which is the open lowveld fields. We want to show a bride how she can take absolutely nothing and turn it into a masterpiece. It’s an affordable way to create your own space in the way you want it. Eliminating all eye sores.
What kind of couple, season and setting would this theme suit?
This theme is perfect for those who just love the outdoors and it can really be used for any season as the colour pallet is so subtle and versatile
Talk us through the key elements.
Flowers: Roses, Arumns, fynbos and Spanish moss. A mixture of wild and elegant. We wanted to elevate the bouquets as it would make it a lot easier of guests to carry out conversations without obstacles in the way.
The cake: When my team and I were planning the cake we thought of creating something basic as a canvas like the naked cake, which creates the perfect “clean slate” for adding all sorts of fun elements, like the mushrooms, flowers and tree elements. The cake was a vanilla naked cake with cream cheese butter cream icing:
The bottom layer was completely iced in the butter cream and natural leaves were used with a natural twine to tie it together – this was a two layer cake.
The top “naked cake” contained a 4 tier vanilla sponge with cream cheese butter cream icing and was decorated with fresh flowers that matched the table décor as well as hand crafted mushrooms and hessian Mr and Mrs signs that matched the look and feel perfectly.
Fashion: Gelique went out of their way to make all the dresses from scratch to match the colour pallet for this shoot. We felt that every bride already knows what dress she really wants so we decided to rather showcase awesome bridesmaid dress ideas. The idea was comfortable yet stylish.
What advice would you give a couple wanting to a similar theme for their big day?
As photographers we always advise to plan in advance. The best photographers are always booked out so after you have selected your venue book your photographer ASAP because wedding photos and your vows will be the only things you take away from this special day.
And as photographers who pulled all of this together all we can say is use these vendors because if you’re going to do something this unconventional you really need people you can rely on. This was shot in Hartbeespoort between a lot of farms so rather than paying so much for a venue go ask a farmer as they generally don’t mind and would charge a much lower rate than a fully booked venue.
When it comes to advise, as a baker it is important that you come with a general idea of what you would like, fondant, buttercream – and the flavours of the cake you would like – a tasting is always preferred! But bear in mind – a picture you bring is not always created 100% as your unique style needs to be added into the cake as well – it is important as not everything needs to be “pinterest”about your wedding! Also remember the season – that helps with colour, style and flavour inspiration – keep it current!
